About Us
Introduction
Meston Reid & Co have an experienced and dedicated insolvency
team with considerable expertise and knowledge in dealing
with all aspects of financial difficulties. Our structure
allows us to offer a personal and proactive service at a
competitive price.
The insolvency team prides itself on adopting a realistic,
practical, understanding and helpful approach, whilst being
aware of the need to ensure equitable treatment for individuals
in financial difficulty and all stakeholder groups.
We use our practical experience and technical knowledge
to provide constructive advice aimed at achieving commercially
sound solutions. We have acted in hundreds of formal insolvencies,
both corporate and personal, and have experience of most
industries and the financial challenges which are faced.

Michael
Reid: Licensed Insolvency Practitioner
Michael trained
with an international firm of chartered accountants
in Glasgow and qualified as a chartered accountant in
1981. Thereafter he worked in Paris, London and Toronto
before returning to Aberdeen in 1986. He co founded Meston Reid & Co on 1 January 1990.
Michael has held an insolvency permit since 1989 and
has acted as principal in hundreds of formal insolvencies
(administration, receivership, liquidation, sequestration
and trust deed) and provided support/advisory services
to numerous businesses and individuals who have experienced
financial difficulty and required specialist help.
Michael serves on the insolvency committee of the Institute
of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and is the Scottish
personal insolvency examiner/marker for the UK Joint
Insolvency Examination Board.
He is a keen squash player, a member of Royal Aberdeen
Golf Club, Treasurer of Aberdeen Rotary Club and a Burgess of Guild of the City of
Aberdeen. |

Michelle
Byrne: Insolvency Manager
Michelle has specialised in the provision of insolvency advice since 1986, joining Meston Reid & Co in 1991. She has a wide experience of all types of personal/corporate insolvency and provides regular advice sessions to both individuals and businesses. Her experience includes acting for entities where formal insolvency proceedings may be inappropriate and where creditor consultation/communication and a repayment programme are appropriate.
Michelle's role includes developing the insolvency department's technical excellence and overseeing development of the firm's insolvency capability. She manages a growing and evolving department and ensures that the Meston Reid & Co insolvency service is delivered both efficiently and effectively.
Michelle enjoys keep fit but spends most of her free time on family matters: a husband and two sons who play football keep her busy. |

Ross Morgan: Insolvency Supervisor
Ross joined Meston Reid & Co in 2009 to help cope with the firm's increasingly diversified caseload . He has worked with a bank ( 12 years ) , the local Council ( 5 years ) and another insolvency practice ( 4 years ) gaining experience in a wide variety of financial issues . His expertise and training allow him to offer constructive and creative solutions which are tailored to an individual's/company's specific needs . He holds a Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency and is studying for the Joint Insolvency Exam .
His interests include reading , jogging , music and DIY . |

Melanie McEwan: Insolvency Supervisor
Melanie commenced her insolvency career in 2007 and worked for two other insolvency service providers before joining Meston Reid & Co.
Melanie handles the technical and administration matters arising in each insolvency assignment and is involved with meeting/assessing both individuals and companies in order to provide a range of options such that a practical/appropriate decision can be taken regarding the way forward.
Melanie worked in the banking industry for nearly 10 years thus allowing her management skills and client-meeting experience to assist in dealing with both individuals and companies who feel under pressure and require clear explanations/advice.
Her interests include keep fit, cooking and speaking Spanish.

Lena Wood: Insolvency Administrator
Lena joined Meston Reid & Co in 2008 and has
experience in banking and administration over a number
of years . She provides direct support for all cases ,
dealing directly with debtors , creditors , directors
and all other parties linked to an insolvency process .
Her interests include gardening and cooking , and she
was a Special Constable in Aberdeen for a number of
years . |

Sarah Elphinstone: Insolvency Assistant
Sarah obtained an honours degree at Aberdeen University in 2009 and, after a period with the National Blood Transfusion Service, joined Meston Reid & Co in order to provide support to the insolvency team in terms of dealing with all administration aspects relating to both formal and informal insolvency assignments. Her career in insolvency includes a current study programme for the Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency.
Her interests include attending the theatre, particularly with respect to watching ballet, and supporting the voluntary sector.

Paul O'Donnell: Insolvency Assistant
Paul graduated with an honours degree from Dundee University and joined Meston Reid & Co in order to provide support to the insolvency team in terms of dealing with all administration aspects relating to both formal and informal insolvency assignments. His career in insolvency includes a current study programme for the Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency..
His interests include football (vice captain of the University team for 2 years), volleyball and golf.

Secretarial
support
The core team is supported by a receptionist, typists, administration
assistants and a cashier: all of whom have many years’
service with Meston Reid & Co.
